Try a Cleanse: Get Your Life Back HOW TO LOSE 13 - 20 LBS IN ONLY 3 DAYS!

Judy says "Have you ever lost 13 lbs in 3 days? Want to know how? The Bava Juice Cleanse is Calgary's Spring Kick start to Easy weight loss in May"

One of the benefits of any cleanse is quick weight loss.  It seems to be popular right now, so Healthy Chef decided to investigate!

We selected the Bava Juice Cleanse, because of its high nutritional standards and delivery to the door just like Healthy Chef Delivery. The owner, Charis Lynn Curtis, is a Wholistic Therapist and Nutritionist and dedicated to healing people's health.

Healthy Chef's Biggest Loser Says it was EASY!

Robert, our delivery manager volunteered for the test! He was eating right, but snacking was increasing his weight over time, and he simply could not lose even a few pounds.

No fasting or starvation involved.  The results were outstanding and he lost 13 pounds and felt fantastic!

Here is the condensed version:

  • On April 27th Robert weighed in at 244 lbs
  • April 28th down to 240 lbs.
  • April 29th at 238 lbs.
  • Final weight was 232 lbs!
  • That was a total of 13 lbs in only 3 days on a natural food juice cleanse.
  • Robert said he had a feeling of inner peace and calm... a whole new experience for him!
  • Now what?  Robert will continue eating only those meals suggested by his Wholistic Nutritionist, as a transition from a juice diet back to a whole food cleanse diet.

Christa with Edible Balance - Finding a Connection… and a Bava Juice Cleanse Review!

You know that feeling when you have re-connected with a friend that you haven’t seen in many years and you realize that you have much more in common, and have a deeper connection than you had ever thought before?

Well, that happened to me last night.

I met Karen through my brother and my (now) sister-in-law way back in Bible College. We knew each other, but didn’t really spend much time together. Then about 8 or 9 years ago, I started a new job at Samaritan’s Purse and it just so happened that her (now) husband worked there as well. Karen and I had chatted once in a while during that time, but that was the extent of it. We ran into each other at the farmers market shortly after I left the job, but again, basically stood and chatted and went on our merry way.

It was when I started talking about the Fab Detox I did with Meghan last year on Facebook that Karen got in touch with me and became interested in doing the detox herself. So, she signed up in September and I was more than happy to cheer her along on furthering her journey to health.

Little did I know that it would start a relationship that we never really had a chance to start so long ago.

Long story short (stay with me!), because of our shared interest in health and transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle, we connected again. As you may have read in my last post, I had learned of a juice cleanse right here in Calgary that another friend had posted about. I knew that I needed someone to come along for the ride with me after trying to get Marc to give it a try and failing, miserably. In fact, when I asked if he wanted to join me on the cleanse, Marc’s first question was, ‘can I still eat toast?”… too funny. There was no one else I would rather experience it with than Karen!

The start of the cleanse was so last minute, I was worried it may not work for her. Thankfully she was instantly on board!

To recap a little, I decided to do this cleanse to take the time to slow down, recharge and focus after a long few months of work stress. I knew my body was starting to protest. I didn’t have a problem with eating the right foods, in fact I was extremely proud of myself for the meal planning and prep that I did to carry both my husband and I through. My problem was that I was not focusing on being mindful of what I ate. Yes, I ate healthy, but you can still run into issues when not really thinking about what you are consuming.

I knew I needed something to get me back to basics, and something that would heal my gut at the same time. I know that Karen felt the same way; we were both feeling worn out, bloated, and just plain exhausted.

By the second day I still had a butt load of energy in the morning, with a few hunger pangs throughout the day. By the evening I was getting a little run down. I went to Yoga Passage for a restorative class, but I felt kind of antsy and distracted to be honest. I wasn’t focused at all.

By the third day I was ready for it to be over. I woke up feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. I slept horribly and I wasn’t so sure I should continue.  BUT, after my mug of warm lemon cranberry water and a full glass of water, I was energized again and ready to face the day!

Without going on too much, I’ll answer the big questions… did I get hungry? Yes, absolutely. Was I tired/ have lack of energy? As I mentioned earlier, now and then. Grumpy? Well, maybe sometimes ;)

Did that mean it wasn’t going well for me? Absolutely not!

There wasn’t anything to mask my feelings with. I wasn’t about to push them away, instead I had to face them and deal with them in a non-food related way. It made me more mindful of what is happening in my body and more mindful of the struggles I have within myself. Interestingly enough, this cleanse not only had to do with giving my digestive system a break, it opened up other things that I have been pushing down by keeping busy and finding ways to distract myself.

The ultimate question for those in Calgary that are looking for something like this… would I do this cleanse again with Bava? To be completely honest, I’m not so sure. I loved the juices, the blendswere delicious! I especially loved the dinner juice, so creative and distinct! Of course youknow the green juice for lunch was my first love! However, being an avid juicer myself and having a Hurom juicer at home, I know that I can do this on my own. Having said that, it’s nice to be able to do a cleanse without the stress of having to make it myself.

It may be a lot to ask, but I do wish that Bava (or any other program) would deliver on more of a daily basis, as I felt that (especially with the chai milk) they were getting a little old by the last day. I also tend to make my juices with more vegetables than fruit. They were a bit too sweet for my taste. The first day I really enjoyed the sweetness, but after that it got a little too much. Although, others who are doing a juice cleanse for the first time would most likely appreciate that!

What I loved the most, was that they delivered right to my door, first thing in the morning to start your cleanse. Even living in a condo building, they were able to get in and place the juice at the security desk by the door so they didn’t bother me so early! Also, the emails that were waiting in my inbox every morning, including a breakdown list of why juicing is so valuable. I won’t get into the details, as I am not a nutritionist, and don’t want to give specific advice. But there were some really great points that I took to heart. I appreciated the pep talks from them and from Karen! We had a few check-ins during the day to see how the other was doing.

In the end, I absolutely would recommend Bava Juice to those in the area. Even if I’m not interested in doing it again, I am so glad there is something available locally, instead of signing up for a cleanse to be sent across the country. They really do provide a great service!

As I mentioned, having Karen along for the ride was invaluable. It also brought us even closer. Last night we met up face to face for the first time in years and it felt like we’ve been close friends for decades! Through all of this, I cannot measure how blessed and encouraged I felt leaving the restaurant at the end of the night.

I am incredibly grateful for how God has brought us into each other’s lives.

We celebrated the end of our cleanse with dinner at one of my favorites, and hopefully a new favorite for Karen… The Coup!

Excuse the terrible iPhone photo, but this was delicious! Rice fettuccini with sundried tomato and hazelnut pesto, shredded yams and shiitaki mushrooms… I asked if they could ease up on the pasta and add broccoli, they were more than happy to oblige! Our delicious drinks were mint lemon thyme iced teas. A very tasty celebration indeed!

All in all, I really enjoyed the experience and was encouraged that I was capable of doing this for myself. I do feel like I’ve had a reboot, and am looking forward to getting back in the kitchen and hopefully get the creative juices flowing again! (pun intended, ha!)

Whew! If you have stuck with me all this time, thank you!! It’s funny how you feel dry for so long, not knowing what to write about and then BOOM, it hits ya! If you have any questions at all about my experience with juicing and/or with Bava, I am more than happy to answer what I can!

Christa with Edible Balance

*if you are new to my story and battle with skin/hormone issues, feel free to catch up: The Skin I’m InThe Skin I’m in (Update). There are others that touch on the subject, feel free to browse the archives ;)

It has been quite a while since I have shared on balancing my hormones and clearing the ever so constant acne. There’s a reason for that… I’m still struggling. It’s a hard thing to admit to myself let alone others.

It’s debilitating. It’s frustrating. Mostly because I feel I am doing absolutely everything right. I also feel like I am repeating myself. Looking back at my previous posts on the subject, it’s like the song that never ends.

Since one of my last posts on this, I have been through a few periods of absolute clear skin that lasted at least a week. Not just a mere few days, so I thought I was on the mend. Plus, to get a little personal again, I had another period the month after I posted about my first after a year. Sadly, it ends there. Nothing since. And mostly because of the stress at work, not getting enough rest and other things going on, the acne came back with a vengeance. Again.

Sigh.

So, I decided to go back to the comments on my first post about my skin. I remembered one of my readers suggesting a local eco spa, Leela. I have thought about laser treatments before, but I knew I did not want to go that route and wreak complete havoc on my skin. It’s so invasive! Looking into Leela’s website, I noticed an alternative called The Perfector. So I went in to talk to them, as they are just a few doors down from my naturopath.

The esthetician just happened to be at the front desk and so I asked her about it. She admitted that she didn’t know much about The Perfector, as she is relatively new to the spa. We chatted a bit, and I filled her in on the details of what is going on, and with the information I gave her, she highly recommended that I start off with facials. I had never had a facial that dealt directly with acne/hormonal issues, so I thought I’d give it a try.

Verdict? LOVED it! I have never fallen asleep in an esthetician’s chair, and I almost did during this facial! She went through a series of washes, masks, cleansing, etc. One mask that I absolutely adored had paprika and lime. The paprika pulls everything to the surface and helps with inflammation. It’s not for the faint of heart (face?); the longer it sits, the warmer it gets on your skin. It felt amazing and so energizing! I wish I could remember everything she did, but I plan on going once a month for at least two more visits.

The spa uses Eminence Skin Care, which only contains fruits, vegetables, and herbs. I am extremely picky about what goes on my face; I’m paranoid of  the reaction. With this facial, there was a touch of redness for the rest of the evening but that was it! My face didn’t break out any further. Having said that, it still took a long time for the acne that I had at the time to disappear. I hope that with a few more visits it will get better and better.

What I appreciate is that she will customize the facial each time to how my skin is that day. I had a few major flare-ups the first time, but if I show up for my next appointment with a somewhat clear face (crossing fingers!) she’ll adjust it. I hope this will help with the outward appearance while I continue to deal with the inside.

Which led to this…

Just as I came home from our trip to Arizona, a friend had posted a picture on Instagram of a juice she was about to drink for dinner that was part of a cleanse. Curious, I had to ask her who she was doing the cleanse through, as I had only known of companies that provide that service out of Toronto. Some deliver across Canada, some don’t. I’ve wanted to do a cleanse of this sort for a while, but prefer to keep it local. It’s juice, I don’t want it carted across the country!

She excitedly told me about Bava Juice Cleanse. If you’ve been following me on Twitter or Instagram, you may have seen a few pics of mine from Day 1 of the cleanse. Sorry for the juice photo bombing!

Let me first tell you this. I did not embark on this 3-day juice cleanse to lose weight, or restrict. After the past month or two of battling acne, working long, stressful hours, travelling, etc, I needed a recharge, reboot, a restart… whatever you want to call it. My body needed to take a digestive break and I felt this would be the least stressful way to do it. Especially when I don’t have to make it myself!

I’m currently on Day 2 of the cleanse. It’s going well, a few moments of hunger, and I may have tired myself out too much with a short interval run yesterday. I had a lot of energy and needed to get out in the sun! Today is a different story. I’m a little tired (which may have to do with it being a Monday and I’m back at work), but still have a good amount of energy. I do feel that it’s a reminder to slow down, rest and take care of myself. So, tonight I’m looking forward to restorative yoga at Yoga Passage and do just that.

In a few days, when the cleanse is over I’ll post a bit of a review. I also have a good friend who has been along for the ride with me who will be giving her perspective as well!

Whew! With all of that, I’m off to have a nut milk snack… :)

Question of the day… what do you do to recharge?

Thank you Bava! - Todd Strong (www.toddstrong.ca)

Thank you so much for allowing me to do the Bava Juice 3 day cleanse! I had a fantastic time on it. I've never done a cleanse before, this was my first time. I have tried fasting on water and only made it for 40 hours. I wasn't sure about this 3 days without solid food... But to my surprise I wasn't hungary at all. I sometimes even got behind on my drinking of the juices and I also had lots of energy throughout. I worked the first 2 days on the cleanse without any problems. I ended up loosing about 9 lbs in total! Almost 7% of my bodyweight. I dropped from 133.6lbs down to 124.6 lbs. I really want to try it again! I know I could have done even longer then 3 days, you just have to try it if you don't believe it's possible, IT IS!!!

Happy Husband - May 30 Cleanse

Ok, So my wife tends to lasso me into doing a cleanse about once a year.  We have done the cleanses that consist of a bunch of pills and running to the bathroom five times a day for a week.  I can't stand those cleanses and refuse to participate in them anymore.  Since this cleanse is only for three days and with no horse pills to take, I figured I would give it a shot to keep my wife happy and hopefully feel better in the end.  I was not disappointed! I never once had to run to the bathroom! That in itself is a plus. I feel great with lots of energy and my skin is noticeably soft. I lost 9 lbs and my wife lost 8.

I have to admit that it wasn't an easy three days.  I was getting sick of drinking all of my meals and craved burgers and steaks.  Luckily the juice was very tasty and the nut milk was a great treat at the end of each day. I did feel hungary at times but never starving.
I will gladly participate in this cleanse again and my wife probably won't have to twist my arm.

Get Reborn!
